Adjust the seat and footrest seamlessly and without tools as your little one grows. The shape of the stem ensures automatic correct ergonomic adjustment of seat and footrest depth. The open design inspires to free movement and makes it easy for the child to get up and down and pull in towards the table.

The small wheels on the rear legs of the chair are an important safety feature reducing the risk of tilting, in case your child pushes backwards from the table. Please note that young children always need adult supervision.

Meet The Designer - Peter Opsvik

Peter Opsvik has designed Nomi – and numerous other classic chairs that are currently used in offices, living rooms and kindergartens around the world. During the past decade he has received several Nordic and international design awards for his seating solutions for children and adults. More than anyone, this Norwegian designer has reflected upon the way humans sit. So that the human body becomes the core of good design and we can better unite our sitting lifestyle with our active bodies.

The Nomi concept is the result of more than 40 years of work with children’s chairs. Peter Opsvik has designed Nomi from the philosophy that children need a stable platform from which to move – a platform that inspires many different positions, so the child can adopt an active seating position.

Peter Opsvik (1939) graduated as industrial designer from Bergen National Academy of Arts and Statens Håndverks- og Kunstindustriskole in Norway. Since 1970 he has been working as a freelance designer in Oslo.

As a furniture designer he is very conscious about our planet. His designs are developed with love and respect for the surrounding world. It is important to him to reduce the footprint left on the environment. Nomi is manufactured in such a way that all the parts can be recycled. Opsvik is also involved in the establishment and running of 'Design Without Borders' – an organisation where designers use their skills to find new solutions for developing countries and crisis areas.

 

Seamless Adjustment - Turn, Move, Tighten

You can adjust the seat and footrest by turning a knob, which is easily loosened and tightened by hand. This means that you can quickly adjust Nomi to match the changing needs of your child - or to fit visiting children or grandchildren of varying ages. The conical shape of the stem provides added safety as it prevents the seat and footrest from sliding without the need to over-tighten.

Nomi should be adjusted to match the height of your child and table. Start by positioning the seat so that your child's elbows are level on the table; then adjust the footrest so that the thighs are level and the feet resting flat. The design of the stem ensures that the depth of the seat and footrest are always correct.

A solid footrest is the foundation for all movement and healthy motor development.

 

Safety

Nomi has been tested by TÜV, Catas and FIRA according to the newest safety standards:

  • The wide legs provide ultimate stability
  • The rear wheels minimise the risk of tilting in case your child pushes backwards from the table
  • The size and structure of the seat and footrest deliver comfortable sitting with a good foothold
  • The conical shape of the middle stem ensures that the seat and footrest stay in place without the need to over-tighten

 


Test & Sustainability

Nomi has been tested according to the latest international safety standards*. The wood complies with the international FSC standards, while the plastic parts are made of recyclable plastic (polypropylene) free from parabens and phthalates. The cushions have been tested and approved by the Oeko-Tex® standard100 - the world's leading health certification standard for textiles. None of our materials release harmful substances.

*EN standards are European safety norms. They include testing of durability, function and stability. The stability of Nomi has been tested, even with extra pressure added to the extremities of the chair. It has also been verified that there are no holes or gaps in which the child can get caught or stuck. The newest norm from 2012 focuses particularly on the restraint and the design of the holes and gaps. Durability and weight load have also been tested. Nomi is also approved for adults with a durability test corresponding to 10 years' use.
